Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about ordering, shipping, returns, and our switches. Can't find your answer? Contact us.
Brand & Service
Why buy from DIYKEY instead of a local retailer?
We source directly from manufacturers and boutique switch makers, which means you get access to limited-run and enthusiast-grade switches that most local retailers simply don't stock. Every batch goes through quality checks before dispatch, and we pack each order in crush-proof trays or jars inside double-walled outer boxes — because we're builders too and we know how frustrating bent pins are.
Do you ship worldwide and is there a free shipping threshold?
We ship to 14+ countries including the US, UK, Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and more. Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on package weight and destination. Check the cart page for the current free shipping threshold, which may vary by region.
Pre-orders & Group Buys
What is a Group Buy (GB) and how does it work?
A Group Buy (GB) is a crowd-funding pre-order method common in the mechanical keyboard community. It allows enthusiasts to pool orders to meet the manufacturer's Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) for custom or limited-run switches. Once the GB window closes, the order counts are submitted, and manufacturing begins. Because of this, GB items have an extended production timeline before they ship.
Can I cancel a Group Buy order after it's been placed?
Group Buy orders can be fully refunded or canceled at any time *before* the active GB submission window closes. However, once the GB period ends and final orders and funds are submitted to the manufacturer for production, we cannot accept any cancellations, order modifications, or refunds.
How will I be notified when my Group Buy order ships?
We share regular updates regarding manufacturing progress, freight timelines, and arrival dates on our dedicated Updates page and Discord server. As soon as the switches arrive at our fulfillment facility and your order label is created, you will automatically receive an email confirmation with your tracking details.
Do you support Group Buys (GBs) and limited drops?
Yes. We regularly participate in Group Buys and limited drops for enthusiast switches. GB items ship on their scheduled fulfillment date. If you order a GB item alongside in-stock items, the entire order is held until the GB fulfills — place a separate order if you need in-stock items sooner.
Orders & Payment
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex), PayPal, Shop Pay, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. All transactions are encrypted and processed securely via Shopify Payments.
Will my payment details be stored after checkout?
No. We do not store your card details on our servers. Payment processing is handled entirely by Shopify's PCI-DSS compliant infrastructure. If you use Shop Pay, your details are stored securely by Shopify — not by us — and are only used to speed up future checkouts with your consent.
Can I change or cancel my order after placing it?
Contact us immediately — we process orders within 24 hours. If your order hasn't been dispatched yet, we can usually accommodate changes or cancellations. Once shipped, we cannot recall the package, but you can initiate a return after delivery.
How do I use a discount code?
Enter your code in the "Discount" field at checkout before completing payment. Only one code can be applied per order. Codes cannot be applied retroactively after an order is placed. If your code isn't working, check the expiry date or minimum order value requirement.
I didn't receive an order confirmation email. What should I do?
Check your spam or junk folder first. If it's not there, the email address on your order may have a typo. Contact us with your name and approximate order date and we'll locate your order.
Can I combine two separate orders to save on shipping?
We can combine orders if both are placed on the same day and neither has been dispatched yet. Contact us as soon as possible after placing the second order. We'll refund any duplicate shipping charges if we're able to merge them.
Shipping & Delivery
How is shipping cost calculated? Is there a free shipping threshold?
Shipping fees are dynamically calculated at checkout based on the total weight of your items and your delivery location. We do offer free shipping thresholds for select countries. You can view the current free shipping requirements and track your threshold eligibility progress bar at the top of your shopping cart.
How long does processing take before my order ships?
Standard orders are processed within 24 business hours. During weekends, public holidays, or high-demand drops, processing may take an additional 1–2 days. Group Buy items ship on their scheduled fulfillment date.
What are the estimated delivery times by country?
Estimated transit times after dispatch:
• United States: 8–10 days
• Australia: 6–9 days

How do I track my order?
Once your order ships, you'll receive a confirmation email with a tracking number and a direct link to the carrier's tracking page. You can also log into your account to view order status at any time.
Will I have to pay import duties or VAT?
Product prices do not include destination taxes, VAT, or import duties. Based on our experience, shipments to the US, Singapore, and South Korea are typically not subject to additional taxes — but the final decision rests with local customs authorities. You are responsible for any applicable fees upon delivery.
My package was marked "Delivered" but I haven't received it.
Carriers sometimes mark packages as delivered slightly early. First, check with neighbors or your building's mailroom. If you still cannot locate the package within 48 hours of the "Delivered" timestamp, contact us and we will open an investigation with the courier on your behalf.
My package arrived damaged. What do I do?
Take photos of the outer packaging and the damaged contents immediately before unpacking further. Contact us within 7 days of delivery with the photos. We will file a damage claim with the carrier and arrange a replacement or refund for the affected items.
I ordered both in-stock and Group Buy items. Will they ship together?
Yes — to save you double shipping fees, we hold the entire order until the GB item is fulfilled. If you need your in-stock switches immediately, place two separate orders.
I'm shipping to South Korea or Taiwan — are there special requirements?
South Korea: Provide your Personal Customs Clearance Code (P + 12 digits), Korean full name, Korean address, and phone number (010 + 8 digits) in your order. All details must belong to the same recipient.
Taiwan (China): Provide the recipient's Chinese name, Chinese address, and National ID number in the order notes. Recipients must download the "Ezway" app and complete real-name registration before the package arrives to avoid customs detainment.

Returns & Refunds
What is your return policy?
We offer a 30-day return window from the date of delivery for items in their original, unused condition. Opened switch bags or lubed switches are not eligible for return unless there is a manufacturing defect. See our full Refund Policy or contact us to initiate a return.
Can I return switches I've already lubed or modified?
No. To be eligible for a return under our standard policy, all switches must be in their original, completely unused, and unmodified condition. Once switches have been opened, custom-lubed, filmed, or soldered, they are no longer eligible for a return or refund unless a pre-existing manufacturing defect is present.
A few switch pins arrived bent. What should I do?
Don't panic — switch pins are soft copper alloy and can be gently straightened with tweezers before inserting into a hot-swap PCB. If a pin is completely snapped off, contact us with a photo within 7 days of delivery and we will replace or refund the affected switches.
I received fewer switches than I ordered. What happens?
We use precision commercial scales and typically add 1–2 extra switches as a buffer. If you are shorted, contact us within 7 days of delivery with your order number. We will issue a partial refund for the missing switches or include them in your next order at no charge.
How long does a refund take to process?
Once we receive and inspect your return, refunds are processed within 3–5 business days. The time for funds to appear in your account depends on your bank or payment provider — typically an additional 5–10 business days.
Product & Compatibility
Are your switches compatible with hot-swap PCBs?
Yes. All switches we carry use the standard MX-style footprint and are available in 5-pin (PCB-mount) or 3-pin (plate-mount) variants. Both are compatible with any hot-swap PCB that supports MX-style switches. Check the individual product page for the pin count of each specific switch.
Can I use these switches on a soldered (non-hot-swap) PCB?
Absolutely. All the switches we stock are fully compatible with traditional solderable PCBs. If your PCB layout only has cutouts for 3-pin switches, you can easily modify our 5-pin switches by snipping off the two outer plastic stabilizer pins with flush cutters or nail clippers before soldering.
What is the difference between linear, tactile, and clicky switches?
Linear: Smooth, consistent keystroke with no bump or click — ideal for gaming and fast typists who prefer uninterrupted travel.
Tactile: A noticeable bump at the actuation point gives physical feedback without a loud click — popular for typing and all-day use.
Clicky: Both a tactile bump and an audible click — satisfying for typists but noticeably louder in shared spaces.
Tactile: A noticeable bump at the actuation point gives physical feedback without a loud click — popular for typing and all-day use.
Clicky: Both a tactile bump and an audible click — satisfying for typists but noticeably louder in shared spaces.
What actuation force do your switches have? Are they suitable for gaming vs. typing?
Our switches feature a range of actuation forces (typically 35g to 60g) and bottom-out forces (typically 45g to 70g+). Generally, lighter linear switches are highly recommended for fast-paced gaming due to their rapid, smooth response. Meanwhile, medium-to-heavy tactile switches are preferred for typing, as their physical bump prevents accidental keystrokes and provides a more satisfying tactile rhythm. Check individual product pages for complete force-curve details.
Do you sell switch testers so I can try before committing to a full set?
Yes, we offer custom-curated switch testers that feature a selection of our most popular tactile and linear switches. It is the perfect way to test spring weights, materials, and sound profiles under your own hands before purchasing a full set (typically 70, 90, or 110 switches) for your keyboard. Check our "Accessories & Tools" section to see what's currently in stock.
Do your switches come pre-lubed, and what lube do you use?
It depends on the specific product — check the product page for lubing details. Where we offer factory-lubed or hand-lubed options, we use high-grade, temperature-stable lubricants such as Krytox 205g0 (for linears) and TriboSys 3203 (for tactiles). These lubricants will not pool or leak even during warm-weather shipping.
I want to solder these switches — do I need to clip the 5th pin?
Only if your PCB is 3-pin (plate-mount). If your PCB is 5-pin (PCB-mount), you can install 5-pin switches directly without clipping. If you're unsure, check your PCB's product page or documentation — it will specify whether it's 3-pin or 5-pin compatible.
What is your warranty policy for switches?
Switches are covered against manufacturing defects for 1 year from the date of delivery. If you experience a defect within this period, contact us with photos or a short video and we will arrange a replacement or refund. Physical damage from improper installation, soldering, or modification is not covered.
Account & Privacy
Is my personal information safe?
Yes. Your personal data is stored securely and never sold to third parties. We comply with applicable data protection regulations. See our full Privacy Policy for details on what we collect and how it's used.
Do I need an account to place an order?
No. You can check out as a guest. However, creating an account lets you track orders, view order history, and speed up future checkouts with saved addresses.
